Archive for August, 2004Friday, August 27th, 2004As a private investigator, I cannot trespass illegally to do my job. That does not mean that we cannot go onto our client’s propertywith his/her permission. We had a chance to use this in a case in New York where the “other person” was entering our client’s house through a rear yard that was surrounded by tall privacy fencing. We could not find a place to watch the alley in public view, but our client has a small garage that we were able to sit in and film from. We got the proof, several days in a row, including the still naked wife and this man making out in the rear doorway as he departed. If we had been caught, we would not have been doing anything illegal. Posted in General Investigations | No Comments » Friday, August 27th, 2004If you think that your spouse is cheating inside your home and you feel that it would be better to install hidden cameras in place of hiring a private investigator, we recommend that you consider the following: Hidden cameras can be a problem, and we mean “legal problem” for the person who installs them. In most states, a person has a reasonable expectation of privacy, basically meaning that there are some places, like a bathroom, bedroom, etc. in a house where a person may go and expect to have total privacy. Although this is NOT legal advise, be aware that many courts have found these rooms to be protected and use of hidden cameras in them to be invasive and sometimes illegal. (Keep in mind that perverts and creeps like to hide cameras in these rooms) If you elect to go this route, confine your surveillance to those common areas of the house, like rooms where everyone inthe household go all the time. Posted in General Investigations | No Comments » Tuesday, August 24th, 2004For those of you needing to investigate your spouse, but able to wait a bit to get the info, we often times will recommend using a passive type of vehicle tracker. These trackers can be tucked away in his or her car and provide information about where that vehicle traveled, how long it stopped here or there and can be an excellent way to get the good on the cheap. They are called passive devices because they do not provide real time data (you can’t call up someone and say, where is the car now, etc.) We had a case in Michigan where the client installed this device over the weekend, got the data on Monday and found out exactly what house her spouse was stopping at. A quick knock on a neighbors door and she had the womans name and found out she was a co-worker of her husband. Case closed. Posted in General Investigations | No Comments » Tuesday, August 24th, 2004We had a client who hired us, gave us all the information we needed, paid the retainer and did everything exactly as a sound client should do. We then started the surveillance and found that the subject was heated up and spent 45 minutes driving around aimlessly, stopping every few miles, cutting through shopping malls, etc. etc. Ultimately, we had no choice but to let him go. When the private investigator conducting the surveillance called the client, she was suprised and then told the PI that he had caught the last private investigator she hired four days before. This little detail would have been very helpful for us to know. Had we known, we could have done the job with two or three investigators, rather than one, and we would have had a fair chance of staying with him undetected. Rememebr, tell your private investigator EVERYTHING. Be honest and detailed. It will be the best insurance that your money is well spent. Posted in General Investigations | No Comments » Tuesday, August 24th, 2004When a client ask this, the number one reply is what do you need this done for: proof for yourself or proof for divorce court. We still get this question all the time! The private investigator can get you answers, is he/she cheating on me and with whom or they can build a case to prove infidelity in divorce court. For more details, please follow this link for more detailed info on the differences. Posted in General Investigations | No Comments » Friday, August 13th, 2004When a private investigator is called on to testify about an investigation, like a spousal surveillance, he or she will charge you the client for that time. It is not a free “extra”. The same is true for a deposition or any other meetings, conferences, etc. that arise as a result of your case. This is important to keep in mind if your are working on a budget but need proof of infidelity for purposes or a gain in court.
